Canada Day is still over two months away, but it’s never too early to start planning, according to the Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber has announced the theme for this year’s Canada Day parade; “A Century of Heritage, 1913-2013.”
“In keeping with the centennial celebrations that have happened in our community and will continue to happen throughout the year, we felt it fitting to allow our parade registrants help Drumheller celebrate its centennial birthday by showing off its community spirit and pride,” said Roxanne Clark, Chamber office and membership coordinator and organizer of the parade.
The Chamber isn’t accepting registrations yet, but has already been fielding calls from groups eager to start planning.
“We’re not ready for registrations yet, but I’ve already had phone calls from people asking what the theme is this year. So, we wanted to let people know what the theme is, so they can start brainstorming,” said Clark.
The parade is slated to begin at 10 a.m. on July 1, with judging of the floats starting at 9 a.m. Floats will be judged based on the centennial theme.
There are a few things the Chamber is asking residents to keep in mind this year; don’t let children run on to the street, make sure animals are ready to be in the parade, and don’t let floats stop on the route.
Those interested in being in the parade are asked to keep an eye out for registration information at a later date.
“There is no fee to enter the parade. The Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the parade for over 50 years,” said Clark. “It’s the perfect chance to get people to start thinking about what they want to do for their float to celebrate Drumheller’s history.”
